Tasmanian Budget 2021-22

The Tasmanian Liberal Government took a strong plan to secure Tasmania’s future in all areas of the State to the May election, and the 2021-22 Tasmanian Budget confirms we are delivering our plan as we promised.

Over the four year period of the Budget and Forward Estimates, we expect our plan will support around 28,000 jobs, as well as provide significant opportunities for Tasmanians in all regions of our State.

For the South, we will invest in essential services including health and education, building intergenerational infrastructure and roads, and investing in the Tasmanian way of life.

Significant investments for the region include:

Health:

$110 million for the Royal Hobart Hospital expanded stage 2 redevelopment;
$10 million for Stage 2 of the Kingston Health Centre;
$7 million for new Angiography suite and equipment upgrade at the RHH;
$9 million for new ambulance vehicles and equipment;
$40.8 million for new paramedics across the State;
$10.3 million for the Glenorchy Ambulance Station;
$1 million to upgrade the Dover Medical Centre and $300,000 for a new Helipad;
$11.1 million for the Sorell Emergency Services Hub.

Education:

$15.1 million for a major school redevelopment at Cambridge Primary School;
$16.8 million for the new Hobart City Partner Schools project for Ogilvie and New Town High;
$8 million towards a new multi-sports facility to be built at Bayview Secondary College in Rokeby;
$6.5 million for a major redevelopment of the Lauderdale Primary School;
Finalisation of the $4.7 million Lansdowne Crescent Primary School refurbishment;
Advance the $20 million revitalisation of Cosgrove High School;
Complete the $4.3 million redevelopment of the Jordan River Learning Federation Farm;
Complete the $4.3 million works at the Southern Support School;
Complete the $1.5 million extension to Springfield Gardens Primary School;
Finalisation of the $1.8 million redevelopment at Montagu Bay Primary School;
$26.6 million for six new Child and Family Learning Centres statewide, including at Glenorchy, Kingborough, and Sorell;
Commence the $50 million investment for a new Years 7-12 Brighton High School;
Continue the construction of the new $22 million Kindergarten to Year 12 Sorell School.

Infrastructure:

$149 million for the Greater Hobart Traffic Solution;
$60 million for the Algona Interchange and duplicate the Kingston Bypass from Algona Road to the Huon Highway;
$27.8 million for State Road upgrades – in the Southern Region;
$1 million to commence the resurfacing of Wielangta Road.

Investing in our community:

A $100 million loan to underwrite a new vessel to support Jobs at Incat;
$6 million to improve the Blundstone Arena stadium;
$3 million for improvements at the Hastings Thermal Pool;
$1.75 million for upgrading the Cockle Creek Camping area and access;
$1.25 million for a Convict Heritage Hub in the Port Arthur Penitentiary Chapel in Hobart;
$1 million for Stage 1 for the redevelopment of the New Town Bowls Club as part of the New Town Sports Precinct Masterplan.

Keeping our community safe:

$55.5 million to finalise the $85 million Southern Remand Centre;
$6.1 million towards the $12.5 million upgrade of the Bridgewater Police Station;
$9 million for critical infrastructure and maintenance at Risdon Prison;
$5.6 million for the Risdon Prison Shared facilities upgrade;
$3 million to continue the new $5 million New Norfolk Police Station.

Investing in the East Coast:

$8.3 million for the Freycinet Peninsula Wastewater Project;
$6 million for the Freycinet Tourism Icons Project;
$2.8 million for the Maria Island re-discovered Project to commence in 2023;
$465,000 for the North East Parks and Reserves upgrades to commence in 2023;
$150,000 for upgrades, netball shelters and storage facilities at Spring Bay Recreation Ground;
$150,000 for the East Coast Rock Lobster Translocation Program;
$35,000 to develop new marketing projects for East Coast Tourism Tasmania;
$50,000 to develop a tourism master plan for the East Coast region;
$40,000 for kitchen refurbishments at St Helens Marine Rescue clubrooms;
$25,000 for the installation of a disabled platform lift in the Swansea RSL;
$60,000 for renovations and new disability toilets at Bicheno Golf Club.

This Budget is one that delivers our plan for the South, and will allow the region to continue to thrive into the future as we secure Tasmania’s future.
