Tasmanian Budget 2021-22

The Tasmanian Liberal Government took a strong plan to secure Tasmania’s future in all areas of the State to the May election, and the 2021-22 Tasmanian Budget confirms we are delivering our plan as we promised.

Over the four year period of the Budget and Forward Estimates, we expect our plan will support around 28,000 jobs, as well as provide significant opportunities for Tasmanians in all regions of our State.

For the North, we will invest in essential services including health and education, building intergenerational infrastructure and roads, and keeping our community safe.

Significant investments for the region include:

Health:

$66.5 million for the continuation of the Launceston General Hospital redevelopment;
$12 million for Launceston General Hospital – Mental Health Precinct;
$9 million for new ambulance vehicles and equipment;
$40.8 million for additional paramedics across the State;
$300,000 for the St Helens helipad;
$3.5 million to upgrade the Midlands Multipurpose Health Centre.

Education:

$23.8 million for the construction of a new primary school in Legana;
$26.6 million for six new Child and Family Learning Centres statewide, including at East Tamar;
$11 million for a major redevelopment of the Exeter High School;
$2 million to upgrade and expand the agricultural VET programs at Campbell Town District School;
$624,000 to complete the $4.5 million new Kindergarten at East Launceston Primary School.

Infrastructure:

$66.4 million for the Launceston and Tamar Valley Traffic Vision;
$27 million for State Road upgrades in the Northern Region;
$4 million for the Tamar Dredging Program and $4 million for the Tamar Estuary Governance program.

Keeping our community safe:

$57.2 million to progress the new $270 million Northern Regional Prison;
$3.1 million towards the $7.5 million upgrade of the St Helens Police Station;
$2.7 million to complete the $5 million new Longford Police Station.

Investing in the North East:

$1.2 million of the $2.8 million commitment to develop Ben Lomond as a year-round destination;
$190,000 for a new all-weather rink at Lilydale Bowls Club;
$280,000 for upgrades to the Scottsdale Football Club;
$350,000 for the extension of the Lilydale Football clubrooms;
$276,000 to upgrade the Hillwood Recreation Hub;
$8,000 for upgrades to the Bridport Golf Club;
$8,000 for new machinery and sheds for the Scottsdale Golf Club;
$20,000 for a Youth Needs analysis for the North East Community Centre;
$80,000 for new spectators areas at the Bridport Football Club;
$50,000 for upgrades to the Scottsdale RSL;
$120,000 for refurbishment of the Bridport RSL;
$50,000 for preparation for a new community jetty in Tomahawk;
$70,000 for upgrades to the Sidmouth War Memorial;
$70,000 for construction of a new Men's Shed at Lilydale;
$50,000 for car park sealing at the Tam O'Shanter Golf Club;
$650,000 towards the Victoria Street redevelopment, including major underground infrastructure works.

Investing in the Tamar Valley:

$735,000 towards the rebuild of the Exeter Show and Recreation Centre;
$40,000 for a new disability lift at George Town RSL;
$112,500 to upgrade the Port Dalrymple Yacht Club slipway;
$31,609 to upgrade the Beaconsfield School Pool;
$380,000 for a new Artisans Guild in George Town;
$78,000 for a new roof for the George Town Community Bowls Club;
$56,000 for new disability toilets at Beauty Point Bowls and Community Club.

Investing in Flinders Island

$980,000 for a new veterinarian facility and equipment to attract a new veterinarian to the Island;
$352,000 to further strengthen biosecurity on Flinders Island;
$200,000 to revitalise park assets and upgrading campground facilities;
$60,000 to upgrade the Flinders Island Sports and RSL Club;
$300,000 to develop a Regenerative Tourism Plan for Flinders Island;
$2 million for staged sealing of priority sections of Palana Road.

This Budget is one that delivers our plan for the North, and will allow the region to continue to thrive into the future as we secure Tasmania’s future.
