The Tasmanian Government is ensuring that Tassie’s visitor economy remains one of our State’s success stories, growing our economy and creating jobs.
The 2024-25 Budget drives the delivery of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, and cements Tasmania’s reputation as a world-leading destination that will continue to go from strength to strength.
Premier and Minister for Tourism and Hospitality, Jeremy Rockliff, said the 2024-25 Budget secures more than $31 million in additional funding for the State’s tourism sector over the next four years, demonstrating the Tasmanian Government’s support for the industry.
The industry injects more than $3.6 billion in visitor spending into the Tasmanian economy.
“We know that Tasmania has what the world wants, and this Budget will keep our visitor economy strong while remaining competitive in an ever-growing tourism marketplace,” the Premier said.
“The 2024-25 Budget includes an additional $12 million investment into the 2030 Visitor Economy Strategy, which is the road map to deliver and manage growth in the tourism industry.
“Our aspiration is to achieve 1.6 million interstate visitors and 400,000 international visitors by 2030, with an estimated growth in visitor spending to $5.6 billion, up from the current $3.6 billion.
“For every dollar a visitor spends in Tasmania, another 83 cents is generated in our economy, supporting continued investment in the things that matter to Tasmanians like cost-of-living relief, health, housing, education and infrastructure.
“The 2030 Visitor Economy Strategy will boost the workforce, attract business events to Tasmania, deliver a 10-year infrastructure plan and stimulate more private investment in tourism products.
“We must also ensure we remain competitive as we face increasing costs of doing business due to national and international inflationary pressures.
“From grassroots marketing to international campaigns, Tourism Tasmania helps drive visitor demand and visitor activity across the State.
“We have seen the success of the innovative marketing campaigns by Tourism Tasmania, and the 2024-25 Budget will ensure these creative campaigns can continue with $4 million to strengthen the Tasmanian brand across domestic and global markets.
“Ensuring access to Tasmania, our islands, and our regions is critical to keeping our visitor economy strong, which is why our $5 million Aviation Fund will support us to be agile and act swiftly to leverage opportunities with domestic and international airlines to increase capacity and enter the Tasmanian market.
“We are also delivering a $50 million Regional Tourism Loan Scheme, which supports investment in visitor economy priorities.
“The Regional Loan Attraction Scheme provides low-interest loans for businesses to invest in new projects that promote regional dispersal and stimulate tourism activity in regional Tasmania.”
Through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future and the 2024-25 Budget, the Tasmanian Government is building on Tasmania’s reputation as a world-leading tourism destination.
