INVESTING IN THE FUTURE OF COMMUNITY SPORTS IN TASMANIA

NIC STREET MP, Minister for Sport and Recreation

There is no stronger supporter of grassroots and community sport and recreation in Tasmania than the Rockliff Liberal Government.

Minister for Sport and Recreation, Nic Street, said as part of the 2023-24 Tasmanian Budget, the Government is investing in a range of programs and initiatives that will help get more Tasmanians active.

“Reclink Tasmania will receive further support of more than $500,000 over the forward estimates to continue providing opportunities for at risk and disadvantaged Tasmanians to enjoy community sporting activities,” he said.

“ParaQuad Tasmania will also receive additional funding of $150,000 to run its Physical Disability Sports Programs.

“To secure the future of Tasmania’s iconic Summer Sports Carnivals, we are also extending funding to the Sports Carnivals Association of Tasmania through to 2025-26.

“Funding certainty is being provided over the next four years ($3 million) to ensure that our Ticket To Play sports voucher program continues helping with cost-of-living pressures by allowing more Tasmanian families to access sports.

“We will make certain that the opportunities brought about by the Northern Suburbs Community Hub development in Mowbray are fully realised by committing $27.5 million to the project over the next two years.

“This will ensure community activities and sports have a new home they’ll be proud of in the north of the State.”

The Rockliff Liberal Government is also committing $10 million over two years for a Tasmanian Active Infrastructure Grants Program, to fund community sporting facility upgrades across the State, following the success of previous programs such as Levelling the Playing Field and Improving the Playing Field.

“Every Tasmanian deserves to lead an active and healthy lifestyle and we will do everything we can to encourage and support them to achieve this,” Minister Street said.
