FUNDING PUTS SURVIVORS AT THE CENTRE

JO PALMER MLC, Minister for Prevention of Family Violence

Eliminating family and sexual violence is a key priority for the Rockliff Liberal Government.

The 2023-24 Tasmanian Budget ensures targeted, careful, and considered investment, with $50 million allocated over the forward estimates to our third Family and Sexual Violence Action Plan, Survivors at the Centre.

Prevention of Family Violence Minister Jo Palmer said since the launch of our first nation-leading action plan in 2015, this Government has continued to build on its prevention and response measures.

“The Rockliff Liberal Government has already invested $12.5 million since the Action Plan was launched last year, providing funding certainty for our specialist family and sexual violence services, and ensures ongoing support for Tasmanians affected by family and sexual violence,” Minister Palmer said.

“Our Government is targeting every dollar in this Budget to build a strong economy and a safe and caring community.”

The Action Plan commits more than $100 million over five years to deliver new and continuing actions towards preventing and responding to family and sexual violence, meeting the needs of victim-survivors, and holding perpetrators to account.

Since 2022-23, the Rockliff Liberal Government has invested in a number of initiatives, including:

  • $62.5 million for Survivors at the Centre;
  • $15.1 million over two years for the pilot of two Arch Centres;
  • $24.4 million in ongoing funding for Safe at Home, Tasmania’s criminal justice response to family violence;
  • $3.7 million for technology and evidence storage;
  • $4.5 million Rapid Rehousing; and
  • $2 million for Hobart Women’s Shelter Emergency Response

The Rockliff Liberal Government is building a safe, caring community where all Tasmanians are safe, equal and respected and our homes, families and communities are free from all forms of family and sexual violence.
