BUDGET BACKS TASMANIAN SMALL BUSINESSES

MADELEINE OGILVIE MP, Minister for Small Business

With Tasmania having among the highest business confidence in the country, the Rockliff Liberal Government is continuing to support our small business sector to further thrive.

Minister for Small Business, Madeleine Ogilvie, said the 2023-24 Tasmanian Budget continues the Government’s strong record of supporting our small businesses.

“Small businesses make up 97 per cent of Tasmania’s businesses and we remain committed to supporting initiatives that allow our businesses to grow,” she said.

“I am pleased to announce we are continuing to support our Tasmanian small businesses and will allocate more than $600,000 over the next two years for grants associated with the Small Business Growth Strategy 2026.

“This funding will continue to deliver on the objectives of our Small Business Growth Strategy themes.”

There is targeted funding for:

  • The Small Business Growth Strategy Grant Program, which provides grants of between $10,000 and $50,000 to Tasmanian businesses for projects that support the key themes of the Small Business Growth Strategy 2026;
  • Round two of the Business Incubator and Accelerator Pilot Program, which will provide ongoing support for business intenders and new businesses across a variety of sectors;
  • Round three of the Business Advice and Financial Guidance Program, for grants of between $750 and $1,500 to small businesses to access specialist financial services or business support to assist in business recovery, transition, or growth; and
  • To continue the delivery of up to five hours of free business advice through a revised model called the Tasmanian Business Advice Service.

Mental health support for business owners will also be provided through a funded partnership with Lifeline Tasmania to deliver phase two of the Minding Your Business Mental Health Program.

The Budget also provides for ongoing support to Tasmanian businesses through the Business Tasmania service.

“These future focused initiatives will ensure that the more than 41,000 small businesses in Tasmania get the support they need, boosting confidence in the sector and creating jobs and economic opportunities for Tasmanians,” Minister Ogilvie said.
