Community footy is the heart and soul of the great game in Tasmania, it brings communities together and creates lifelong bonds.
Following last night’s historic announcement that our State will host two AFL elimination finals this weekend, the footy buzz across Tasmania is electric.
And while more elite level content for Tasmania is incredible news, it’s important for communities to get out and show their support for local footy finals around the State as well.
We’ve seen some thrilling community finals recently, with Mount Pleasant claiming the Oatlands District Football Association in a nail-biter against Bothwell, and Ulverstone putting on a dominant performance against Wynyard to win the North West Football League women’s Grand Final.
And there’s still plenty of action to come with finals set to be played for the Circular Head Football Association, Darwin Football Association, North West Football Association, Old Scholars Football Association, Northern Tasmanian Football Association, Southern Football League and Tasmanian State League in coming weeks.
I thank crowds for being understanding and compliant with COVID-19 protocols by wearing masks, and I look forward to attending some of the upcoming community footy finals.
