Work has started on realigning Highland Lakes Road at the ‘Pub with no Beer’ corner near Bothwell to improve safety and facilitate freight transport.
The $2 million Highland Lakes Road project, being undertaken by proud Tasmanian business Hazell Bros Group, will remove the existing blind corner by realigning approximately 800 metres of the road where it passes the corner.
This is one of 12 road construction projects being fast tracked through our expedited procurement process under the Tasmanian Liberal Government’s COVID-19 Economic Support Package.
The package includes more than $40 million of construction projects around the state, providing certainty and supporting jobs in the local construction industry.
Highland Lakes Road is the main access route for traffic travelling between the Midland Highway and the Central Highlands and carries a mix of traffic, including visitors and freight vehicles. The realignment is expected to be completed in February next year.
Access to a rest area on the corner will remain open during construction but there will be some temporary traffic changes, including lane closures, to ensure the safety of workers and road users.
Road users are reminded to keep to the posted speed limits and follow the directions of traffic controllers and signs to keep themselves and our road workers safe.
