The real facts on the Northern Regional Prison site

The Tasmanian Government remains committed to delivering the Northern Regional Prison in an effective and timely manner, with this vital project set to create more than 1,000 jobs and deliver an economic boost of $500 million to the region.

The Department’s due diligence work for the planning approvals process at the site continues, with an important component of the geotechnical investigations commencing today.

In accordance with the Works Authority, drilling works have been able to safely begin with contractors able to work in a way that ensures disturbance to vegetation and soil is kept to a minimum.

This core testing will advise us of the composition of the soil, clay and rock which is an important element of the planning process.

These important geotechnical investigations will be fully cognisant of the local environment.

The Tasmanian Government will continue to keep the nearby residents informed of updates and developments and via the Department of Justice website, as has been the ongoing process to date.
