Tasmanian Women’s Council restructure

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is committed to creating a more inclusive Tasmania that empowers and enables women and girls to fully participate in our economic, social, political and community life.

I am pleased to announce today that a restructured Tasmanian Women’s Council has been established and it will meet for the first time in October under revised Terms of Reference to reflect the Government’s strategic priorities.

The Council will now comprise eight members and an ex-officio Chair. Three new members have been appointed, to join five existing members, which gives us statewide coverage and brings varied skills, knowledge, and business and community experiences to the group.

In particular, I’d like to thank Annette Rockliff, who was Chair of the Council for many years, and the other outgoing members.

This refreshed structure will ensure the Government continues to work on initiatives and outcomes that will increase opportunities for women’s leadership and participation in industry and civic life, and will facilitate pipelines and opportunities for women’s employment and participation in growth areas of Tasmania’s economy.

I look forward to working with the new Council to make this happen.

It’s also timely to draw attention to the Tasmanian Honour Roll of Women as it is open for nominations for the next round of inductees.

The Honour Roll embodies the Tasmanian Government’s commitment to empowering and promoting the dedication, hard work and contribution of Tasmanian women, while ensuring their achievements are appropriately recognised, never forgotten, and so they can inspire future generations.

Nominations can be submitted up to 16 October 2020 for the next Tasmanian Honour Roll induction to be held in March 2021.
I encourage all Tasmanians to come forward and nominate incredible women who have made an outstanding contribution in their chosen field and to Tasmania.
