Tasmania leading the country on Renewables Scorecard

As part of World Wildlife Fund’s (WWF) Renewables Nation program, it has developed a Renewable Superpower Scorecard to assess all state, territory and federal governments when it comes to the action essential to position Australia as a renewable export superpower.

Tasmania has been named the overall leader on the Scorecard largely due to our 100% self-sufficient renewables status, our legislated renewables target and our efforts to punch above our weight to grow a renewable hydrogen industry with our $50 million funding program.

But we have more to do and we have our eyes on achieving an even higher level on the WWF scorecard as we continue to progress our Tasmanian Renewable Energy Action Plan over the coming years.

I commend the WWF for this excellent idea and its drive to provide guidance to all Australian jurisdictions as they support the ongoing transformation of energy markets to clean, reliable and affordable energy.

Tasmania is proud to be leading this transformation and as the nation’s leading renewable energy state, we are perfectly placed to deliver what the country needs – low cost, reliable and clean energy that delivers energy security, downward pressure on prices, and much needed economic stimulus and jobs for Tasmanians.
