Retail Trade streak continues to 28 months

The tills continued to ring for Tasmanian retailers in February, well after the Christmas period, with the State recording a record 28th consecutive month of growth in the retail sector.

The Hodgman Liberal Government made a commitment to the Tasmanian people that we would provide confidence and investment to strengthen the State’s economy, and create jobs.

We have been getting on with the job, and have been rewarded with a tenth consecutive month where retail sales achieved a turnover of more than $500 million.

Figures released by the ABS show that the month of February kept this incredible streak alive, with Tasmanians spending $510.6 million during the month.

The State’s renewed confidence is sustaining this rise, with Tasmanians continuing to put their money back into Tasmanians businesses and retail outlets, supporting local jobs.

Tasmanians can rest assured that the Hodgman Liberal Government will continue to implement our Plan to secure jobs and economic growth for all Tasmanians.
