The Hodgman Government is committed to ensuring any extra costs associated with the change in shipping to and from King Island are contained as much as possible.
Accordingly, I am pleased to be advised by TasPorts that there will be no trans-shipment charges for customers who are moving goods to and from Melbourne via Devonport during the transition period.
This is a great outcome for the King Island community and we will continue to support them through this change after more than two decades of service by the SeaRoad Mersey.
The TasPorts service begins this week with a vessel procured for the short-term and I am confident that it will serve the community well, with three sailings per week to Grassy.
Along with the Government representatives for Braddon, I will continue to work with the King Island community through the transition period.
