Sarah Courtney, Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events,

More time for Tasmanians to use their tourism vouchers

I’m pleased to announce that the validity period for the successful $7.5 million tourism voucher scheme has been extended to ensure those lucky enough to get a voucher have even more opportunity to redeem them.

The 25,000 Tasmanians who received a voucher now have until the 31st of October to use their voucher and support our tourism and hospitality businesses doing it tough due to border closures.

In total, the vouchers are worth $300, with $200 available to be used for multiple purchases of accommodation and $100 for touring and attraction experiences.

With interstate travel options remaining limited we hope that this will encourage Tasmanians and our hard working teachers to enjoy their school holidays right here in Tasmania.

The last round of vouchers generated an estimated $27.5 million in additional spending as Tasmanians travelled across the State and into our regions, spreading the benefits across both our tourism and hospitality industries.

In my new role as Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events, I am focused on continuing to work closely with industry to provide appropriate support where we can to achieve great outcomes.

I look forward to working with industry and Tourism Tasmania to bring attention to our spectacular products and destinations to encourage visitation, assisted through $18 million in additional marketing funds in the 2021-22 Tasmanian Budget.

This will ensure we will have a strong share of voice in a highly competitive marketplace once travel resumes more broadly.

Tasmania’s vibrant tourism industry adds millions to our economy and supports thousands of jobs around the State, particularly in regional areas.

The Tasmanian Government will continue to consult with industry to identify ways that we can work together in a rapidly changing environment to deliver our plan to support and celebrate our world-class tourism industry.
