Mental Health Week: We all have a role to play

Mental Health Week highlights the role we all play in looking after our own mental health and supporting others to do the same.

Given the challenges that 2020 has presented, Mental Health Week this year couldn’t be more important.

It’s an opportunity for all Tasmanians to get out and about, reconnect with your local community, check in with friends and family, and participate in events or join in online to support your mental health and wellbeing.

During this Mental Health Week, and every day, I encourage all Tasmanians to:
*    Check in on your own mental health;
*    Check in with a neighbour;
*    Check in with a friend;
*    Check in on what’s happening in your community; and
*    Check in for a mental health check up with a trusted health professional, like your GP.

Our mental health is just as important as our physical health, and that is why the Tasmanian Liberal Government has a $104 million plan to build a better integrated mental health system, with more focus on hospital avoidance, community-based care and brand new facilities.

Mental Health Week is being held from October 5 to 10.
