Labor wrong again on housing

Labor are again playing political games when it comes to housing.

If they had read our Quarterly Housing reports, they would know that, under our Affordable Housing Strategy, 252 new social housing dwellings (not including refurbishments) were delivered by March 2019 and a total of 654 had been delivered by March 2020.

That’s an increase of 402 over that 12 month period. Another 115 were delivered in the following quarter.

Also, thanks to the historic agreement to waive Tasmania’s housing debt to the Commonwealth, 127 additional social houses are now under construction, with contracts for another 173 currently being finalised, over and above our existing Affordable Housing Action Plan work program.

We are also delivering up to 1000 new social houses under our $100 million Community Housing Growth Program, announced in June.

And we are working to deliver a number of other housing projects to assist Tasmanians in need, including the refurbishment of the Waratah Hotel into a 24 bed Supported Accommodation Facility, the Huntingfield subdivision, and two new youth foyers for young people at risk of homelessness.

Labor simply have no credibility on housing. We won’t be distracted by their political games, as we get on with the job of delivering more homes for Tasmanians.
