Greens’ Move to Abandon Derby Protest Plans Welcome

Confirmation the Greens will not protest at the World Enduro Series event at Derby is welcome news.

In a social media message, the campaign manager with the Bob Brown Foundation, Jenny Weber, refuted any suggestion that the Greens will protest at the mountain bike racing event.

Despite the clear assurance that the Government will not authorise any harvesting which will cause detriment to any significant tourism infrastructure or service, there was talk of Green protest action.

I am pleased that extreme environmentalists have shelved their plans for destructive protests, which would have been nothing more than an economic sabotage of this event.  Any protest action would simply hurt the hard-working local community, and put sustainable job creation and investment in a regional area at risk.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is a great supporter of this attraction; through Forestry Tasmania we not only provided the land for some of the tracks but we are also sponsoring this weekend’s event.

The Blue Derby trails were built in areas that had previously been harvested, so it shows that well managed forests and tourism can co-exist and prosper.
