GP After Hours Support and Hospital Avoidance Co-Investment Fund applications open

Applications are now open for Round 2 of the Tasmanian Liberal Government’s $3 million GP After Hours Support Initiative and the $1 million Hospital Avoidance Co-Investment Fund.

These important initiatives will help more Tasmanians get the right care, in the right place, at the right time, while reducing pressure on our emergency departments.

Importantly, this will increase access to after-hours medical care across Tasmania, delivering on a key election commitment in our First 100 Days Plan.

Following on from stakeholder consultations on the Urgent Care Centre Feasibility Report, the second round has been extended to general practices and those primary care services to apply for grants of up to $250,000 to establish and operate urgent after-hours care services.

Successful applicants in Round 1 are eligible to apply for further funding in Round 2.

To support their application, Round 2 applicants can apply to the Hospital Avoidance Co-Investment Fund for a grant of up to $200,000 to match private sector investment on a dollar-for-dollar basis to support capital upgrades to improve or expand facilities to deliver improved after-hours care.

Collaboration is key to achieving the best outcomes for Tasmanians, and I’d like to thank the key stakeholders that contributed to the consultation process on Urgent Care Centres.

The Department of Health will now work with Primary Health Tasmania and general practices to develop a model of urgent primary care for all Tasmanians as part of a broader review of after-hours primary care service provision.

Applications for Round 2 of the GP After Hours Support Initiative and the Hospital Avoidance Co-Investment Fund close on 5 October 2021.
