I would like to thank the outgoing Theatre Royal CEO Tim Munro for his extraordinary dedication and commitment to the Theatre Royal over many years.
Mr Munro has served in the role of CEO since 2004, contributing to the success and evolution of this much loved Tasmanian cultural institution, after serving as Operations Manager from 1999. He has also been a performer and worked behind the scenes and back stage at the Theatre Royal since 1983.
In particular, his insight and guidance throughout the unique and complex redevelopment of the Theatre Royal precinct and the establishment of The Hedberg complex contributed significantly to the success of the project.
There would be few who could attest to knowing the Theatre Royal better than Mr Munro, and I wish him the very best in all his future endeavours.
I would also like to welcome incoming CEO Simon Wellington, who returns to Hobart having gathered extensive experience in the arts sector in Australia and overseas.
Mr Wellington is a familiar and respected figure in Tasmania’s theatre community, having previously worked at Salamanca Arts Centre and at Ten Days on the Island.
Mr Wellington takes the helm of Australia’s oldest continually operating theatre at a very exciting time.
The transformational redevelopment to establish The Hedberg complex has delivered a world-class facility that will play a key role in enhancing Tasmania’s position as a leader across the creative, performing and digital arts for many years to come.
I wish Mr Wellington all the very best in his new role as he takes the helm for the next exciting chapter in the Theatre Royal’s history.
