Building a stronger economy by getting stalled projects off the ground

Twelve local projects worth $50 million will proceed with help from the Tasmanian Liberal Government's Building Projects Support Program as part of our COVID-19 economic recovery plan.

Announced as part of the 2020-21 State Budget, our $10 million Building Projects Support Program was designed to bring forward stalled community or commercial projects that can help stimulate the building and construction sector and support local jobs.

A total of 64 were applications were received and assessed by an independent panel. Program guidelines included community and social benefits criteria to make sure that these projects deliver real on-ground benefits for Tasmanians.

A great example is Community Care Tasmania (CCT), a not-for-profit home care provider that will receive almost $1 million from Round One of the program to support the development of a new $6 million centre at Launceston Technopark.

Once complete, CCT will have a great new office complex from which it can manage its statewide operations as well as a new six-bed 24-hour respite facility for those in immediate need and a training centre that will help provide more carers gain recognised qualifications.

Importantly, this project will see the creation of 20 new long-term jobs and facilitate the training of 63 additional aged care and NDIS workers per year.

In keeping with our First 100 Day Plan, Round Two of the Building Projects Support Program to open next week, taking the total program funding to $20 million.

This second round will assist in getting even more projects off the ground in a COVID-19 environment, providing a future pipeline for the Tasmanian construction sector and support jobs and investment in our local economy.

Guidelines and application information for Round Two of the program will be available on the State Growth website from 2pm Wednesday, 25 August 2021.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is getting on with our plan to secure Tasmania’s future and this program is an important part of that plan.
