Tasmanian farming confidence still tops the country

The Tasmanian Liberal Government continues to back the farming and agriculture sector which is a key driver of the Tasmanian economy.

For the second quarter in a row the Rabobank Rural Confidence Survey* shows Tasmanian farmers are the most confident and optimistic in the country.

The Rabobank survey showed that 100 per cent of Tasmanian farmers surveyed expect the currently ``excellent business conditions to either continue or improve further over the next 12 months, with dairy farmer confidence particularly strong.’’

Just last month the Tasmanian dairy industry announced a record year of production of 961 million litres of milk, which was up 1.2 per cent from the previous year.

This latest record exceeds the previous 2019-20 record for milk production, which saw 950 million litres of milk produced. Confidence amongst dairy farmers remains high and solid milk prices have been announced by all Tasmanian-based milk processors for the coming 2021-22 season.

This positive outlook for Tasmanian farmers comes on the back of recent ABS commodity figures which showed that the total value of agriculture in Tasmania for 2019-20 was up by 14.7 per cent ($240 million) compared to the national figure of just 0.4 per cent.

The Government is on track with our goal to grow the value of Tasmanian agriculture at the farm gate to $10 billion by 2050.

We are backing our farmers and the agriculture sector which supports thousands of jobs in regional communities and is helping to secure Tasmania’s future.
