$5.5 million in Assistance for Tasmanian farmers affected by floods

Tasmanian farmers affected by the June floods can access more than $5.5 million in grants provided under the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA).

The June flooding has caused extensive damage and significant loss to the agricultural industry and farming communities in Tasmania.

The Australian and Tasmanian Governments have made grants of up to $10,000 available to help primary producers with clean-up and restoration activities.

These farmers need help and providing financial assistance for removing debris, disposing of dead livestock, salvaging crops, grain and feed, and repairing plants and equipment can make all the difference.

Eligible farmers in affected parts of Break O’Day, Kentish, Meander Valley, Northern Midlands, Latrobe, and Waratah-Wynyard can now apply for the recovery grants.

The Federal and Tasmanian Governments, together with farmers,  will continue to assess affected areas. If higher thresholds are met, these grants could be increased and extended to other local government areas.

The Australian Government Disaster Recovery Allowance has also been activated to provide income assistance to eligible employees, small businesses and primary producers.

For more information on all disaster assistance support including clean-up grants for primary producers, call the Tasmanian Flood Recovery Taskforce on 1800 567 567 or visit alert.tas.gov.au/resources/pages/floodrecovery.

Information on the primary producers’ grant is also available at disasterassist.gov.au .
