Human Services The Tasmanian Government is committed to helping vulnerable Tasmanians and, through the Human Services portfolio, is partnering with the community sector to deliver assistance in housing, homelessness, gambling support, family support and for people living with disability. Through our reform of public housing we are helping build stronger communities that are more connected. We've also placed a greater focus on energy efficiency and reducing the cost of living for those on low income. An unprecedented investment in affordable housing from both State and Commonwealth Governments has delivered the biggest affordable housing construction effort in Tasmania in decades, with 1,400 new, affordable homes built between January 2009 and June 2012. In partnership with the Commonwealth and the community sector, we are continuing to help more Tasmanians realise the dream of home ownership. Our significant investment in disability services has provided more flexible services to more Tasmanians living with disability than ever before. Significant reforms in the disability sector have placed Tasmania in a unique position to be ready for the launch of a National Disability Insurance Scheme. We continue to work with the community sector ahead of the introduction of this important reform.
