Youth art on show at TMAG

The work of young Tasmanian artists is now on show at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG) as part of the fourth Make Your Mark: Home youth art project.

Make Your Mark is a youth art initiative of TMAG with a focus on youth expression, creativity and community participation.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is a supporter of the arts and this is a great example of TMAG working collaboratively with the State's youth through its art education program AccessArt, in partnership with local governments from across Tasmania.

This year the project has focused on the theme of Home and has engaged youth from Circular Head, City of Hobart, Glenorchy City and Waratah-Wynyard councils, to participate in artist-led workshops and produce sculptural art.

Each group has explored what 'home' means to them, in terms of the physical spaces and structures we live in, the belongings we surround ourselves with, as well as the connection it has to our very sense of identity, independence and freedom.

The young artists involved have each drawn on their diverse backgrounds and life experiences.

Make Your Mark: Home will run from October 4 to 22 and is open Tuesday to Sunday, 10 am to 4 pm. For further information visit www.tmag.tas.gov.au
