The winners of the Southern Cross Young Achiever Awards have been announced at a gala presentation dinner attended by 300 guests at Wrest Point Casino this evening.
The awards provide a platform to recognise and celebrate the achievements of outstanding young Tasmanians up to 28 years of age, across a diverse range of fields.
I was honoured tonight to announce the Premier’s Young Achiever of the Year for 2015 is Lila Landowski of North Hobart. Ms Landowski, 28, is a neuroscientist investigating nerve regeneration specifically in diabetes. She is currently directing a pre-clinical trial focusing on a treatment for peripheral neuropathy, a disease that damages the nerve fibres carrying information between the brain and body.
Ms Landowski has trained with the Mayo Clinic, cementing her status as an emerging leader in the field of peripheral nerve injury. An enthusiastic volunteer, Ms Landowski gives her time to cancer support services, and teaches medical students and carers about health science.
Ms Landowski is a fine example of an inspirational young Tasmanian who has already made a tremendous contribution to our State and will undoubtedly continue to do so.
She was chosen from the Award’s ten category winners.

All winners receive a $1,000 Progress Saver Account from ANZ and a trophy.
As the Premier’s Young Achiever of the Year, Ms Landowski also receives , $1,000 from the Tasmanian Government and a holiday for two provided by Wrest Point and Qantas.
The Awards presentation falls during National Youth Week, which is an opportune time to acknowledge the work of our outstanding young Tasmanians.
