Yet another White lie on Health

Labor have no plan for mental health and no plan for Tasmania’s health system other than sending sick people to hotels.

In fact, the grand total of new mental health beds promised by Labor is zero.

Rebecca White is so embarrassed by Labor’s policy free zone that she today resorted to making up falsehoods about what I said at a media conference yesterday.

At no stage did I suggest that mental health patients should be subject to mandatory sentencing, in fact mental illness is considered an exceptional circumstance under which mandatory sentencing provisions would not apply.

The actual transcript relating to code blacks is below:

Question:

Were you made aware of a code black at the Royal Hobart Hospital at the weekend?

Response:

I’m not aware specifically of that. I am aware that they do occur from time to time, now where that occurs I think that again vindicates what the Government has wanted to do by changing the law to protect our workers from assault.

Now every time I hear about a code black or an assault against one of our serving paramedics I think about what we could do about it. What we could do about it is change the laws and have a stronger deterrent effect of being able to send the message to a person if you attack one of our staff you’ll go to gaol.  And Labor and Rebecca White blocked that in the Legislative Council. Again we’ll be taking that to the next election. And I’m very sad to hear that.

This is what Labor does when it is exposed for having no plan.

Nothing will distract from the fact that less than six month out from an election Labor has no substance on health or any other important issues.

Tasmanians have no idea what they’d get from Labor, other than another Labor-Green minority Government.
