Wages rising in Tasmania

Yesterday’s release of the ABS Wage Price Index has confirmed Tasmania’s public sector wages experienced strong growth over the last financial year.

Overall in Tasmania wages rose by an average of 2.5 per cent, which is welcome news for Tasmania’s workforce.

For all of Tom Lynch’s blustering, the WPI confirmed that public sector wages actually rose by 2.6 per cent in 2017-18 - the second highest growth in Australia and above inflation. This is also slightly higher than wages growth in the private sector, which rose 2.5 per cent in 2017-18.

One factor for this is that a significant number of public servants receive additional pay rises after every 12 months of continuous service well in excess of two per cent - vindicating our policy as fair, affordable, and reasonable.

And despite Mr Lynch’s assertions, it confirms that public servants on average have received a higher pay rise than politicians will.
