The Liberal Government is proud to be a big supporter of netball in Tasmania.
Today, I am very pleased to announce that two of the world's best teams will make Tasmania their training base for the Netball World Cup.
Welsh Netball, currently ranked 8th in the world, will be based at the Silverdome in Launceston, while Netball Scotland, ranked 12th, will use Aurora Sports Stadium.
Tasmanians will have a chance to get up close with netball's elite at several community events, including open training sessions and they can learn from the best at coaching clinics.
The teams will play warm-up matches against the Tasmanian Australian Netball League team and an Australian underage team, before the two will go head to head at the Derwent Entertainment Centre.
This is a great opportunity for Tasmanians to watch world class sport in our own backyard, and we are proud to provide $30,000 to make this happen.
I would also like to thank Lisa Alexander, the Australian Diamonds' coach, for spending this weekend giving expert coaching tips to our State Under 17, 19 and 21 teams.
The Netball World Cup is held every four years and brings together 16 of the best teams in the world. It will be hosted by Sydney from August 7 to 16.
