Work to Begin on Esk Main Road Upgrade

As part of a major rollout of civil construction works this summer, making roads safer and more efficient, work will start early next month on safety improvements to the Esk Main Road – a key transport corridor connecting the Midland Highway with the State's East Coast.

The Liberal Government is committed to improving road safety, and is investing in infrastructure that helps to grow our economy and create jobs by enhancing transport efficiency.

Tasmanian company Venarchie Contracting Pty Ltd has been awarded the contract to undertake the project, which forms part of a coordinated upgrading of the Esk Main Road as a high productivity vehicle route.

A section of the road west of Avoca, starting from Blanchards Creek Culvert through to Stynes Creek Bridge, will be upgraded, with work commencing early next month, subject to warm dry weather.

The work will include widening the road, repairing the road surface, upgrading safety barriers and removing vegetation from the roadside reserve.

In addition, a final seal will be applied to the road surface in the summer of 2015-16.

During the road works, motorists are reminded to slow down, follow the traffic signs and drive with care.
