Work Readiness Project delivers in North West

The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to Tasmanians having the best possible training and employment opportunities, through developing real skills for real jobs.

One recent initiative has seen the Government partner with the Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry to deliver the Work Readiness Project pilot. The project puts job seekers into work experience with employers giving them the ‘work ready’ tick of approval once they’ve learned the requisite skills.

This is a unique program and a first for Tasmania, giving employers the opportunity to communicate what they want directly to those jobseekers, and providing jobseekers with support to ensure that those skills can be developed or enhanced.

Funded by a Government grant of $209,000, it’s pleasing to see the six-week Devonport pilot program has been a resounding success. Participants graduating today are all ready for work and with the skills they need to work, with some even gaining employment through the program, and others going on to further education and training.

The Project will now roll out to Huonville, Hobart and Launceston over the coming months.

The Government is committed to creating jobs across Tasmania and in the 12 months to February this year, we have seen the North West unemployment rate drop by 1.5 percentage points with nearly 2,000 jobs created.

The Government is supporting economic growth and prosperity through developing the skills of Tasmanians and we will continue to work with groups like the TCCI to deliver more employment opportunities for Tasmanians.
