Wintringham consultation

As a key part of our Affordable Housing Action Plan, yesterday’s announcement of the approval of Federal Government funds for a new aged care facility will give low income Tasmanians over 50 years old access to safe, secure and affordable housing.

While the Bellerive site is the preferred option, no decisions have been made on the location. I assure residents that a planning application will not be lodged with the council until full consultation is held.

It is interesting to see Franklin candidate Alison Standen is already at odds with Labor leader Rebecca White by opposing this project which will provide housing for Tasmanians in need, while also denigrating those she only recently stood up for in her position with The Smith Family.

I have been informed that Housing Tasmania advised the Clarence City Council General Manager last week that all consultation would start this week, with a meeting organised last week with the General Manager of the Council for today.  My office also spoke to the Mayor about the project last week.

It is important to note consultation could not begin until the Government had achieved approval for the aged care places from the Federal Government.

Housing Tasmania will continue to consult widely with local residents and other stakeholders, including the Clarence High School, prior to lodging any planning applications.
