Labor’s Josh Willie is, as usual, dead wrong with his comments on the Tasmanian Government’s commitment to Foodbank.
Labor left office in 2014 with no forward funding for Foodbank included in the Budget.
In contrast, it was the Hodgman Liberal Government who provided continuity of funding for Foodbank, and has increased funding to $250,000 per annum for the next three years.
The first $125,000 instalment of State funding for the 18-19 financial year to Foodbank has been paid, with the remaining $125,000 for the second half of the year due in December.
In addition, the Government is providing an additional $100,000 per year for a second warehouse in the North-West.
The Department of Communities Tasmania is in regular contact with Foodbank regarding the services to be delivered from the allocated funding.
The Tasmanian Government is very supportive of all our food security organisations and the important work they all do.
