The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to strategically investing in our tourism infrastructure, which will help the Government achieve its goal of attracting 1.5 million visitors to the state every year by 2020.
I am very pleased to announce Tasmanian company VEC Civil Construction has been awarded tenders to replace four bridges on Wielangta Road, supporting Tasmanian jobs in line with our Buy Local policy.
Wielangta Road has become an important tourism route for Tasmania as it provides access to the Tasman Peninsula from the East Coast, and the new bridges are just the start of a series of upgrades that will ensure the road is well equipped to handle the influx of tourists to the region.
Work will commence on site early in the New Year with completion scheduled for mid-2017.
Future work that will be undertaken includes re-sheeting and grading, clearing roadside vegetation and reinstating side drains.
The Government will continue to strategically invest in tourism infrastructure as it will help the industry grow while creating jobs and adding to the economy.
