Wielangta Road bridges complete

I am pleased to announce the replacement of four bridges on Wielangta Road is now complete, signalling a major step forward in the overall upgrade of the road.

Wielangta Road is an attractive forest drive connecting Orford to Kellevie Road and the Arthur Highway, providing a picturesque scenic drive into the tourism hotspots on the east coast.

The new bridges are part of a $2.3 million project to upgrade the road that will also include upgrading the surface of the gravel road and associated drainage works.  This will improve the road's long-term sustainability as a tourism route.

The new bridges are built to withstand one in 100 year floods and replace bridges that were damaged and destroyed during the 2016 floods.

It will give tourists a safer and more reliable experience when exploring the state’s stunning natural areas as they play a vital role in our vision of attracting 1.5 million visitors to the state by 2020

It’s great news for tourism in the Lyons electorate and is another marker in the Hodgman Liberal Government’s commitment to upgrading our regional infrastructure.

Local company VEC was contracted to complete the work in line with our Buy Local Policy, and I congratulate them and their workers for their hard work on this important project.
