White’s inexperience means Labor will be captive to vested interests

I would like to congratulate Rebecca White for her promotion to the Labor leadership.

Being the alternative Premier is a very important job, and having the necessary experience is vital.

Unfortunately, Ms White’s track record is hardly inspiring.  Earlier this year, the Party gave Ms White a set of ‘L’ plates and told her to devise a policy on salmon farming on the East Coast.

Paralysed by inexperience, Ms White’s so called solution was to try and have a foot in both camps.  Her message to the industry was that it needed to compromise and bow down to the environmental movement and appease them.

Ms White told the Mercury that “we need to be willing to compromise”* when it comes to salmon farming.  That’s exactly what Labor tried to do with forestry and it all but destroyed the industry.

Ms White has already demonstrated that she won't stand up to powerful vested interests, whether that is the Greens, the environmental lobby or the union movement.

These powerful forces will prey on her lack of experience for their own benefit and it's why only a strong, stable majority Liberal Government can be trusted to Build Tasmania's Future.
