White dismisses Office of the Coordinator- General

In an absolute affront to the hard working staff of Launceston’s Office of the Coordinator-General, Opposition Leader Rebecca White has once again attacked their excellent work.

Ms White has attacked the Office’s record, pretending that the nearly 5000 jobs the Office has helped create don’t exist.

In another attack on the north from Ms White, she wants to rip these jobs out of Launceston.

When questioned by Brian Carlton on Tasmania Talks* as to why Labor wants to change something that is working, Ms White said, “I disagree there, because I don’t think they have got the runs on the board …”.

To name a few, the “runs on the board” Ms White is dismissing include:

  • Driving the Northern Cities Major Development initiative to revive the cities of Launceston, Burnie and Devonport;
  • Helping to negotiate the Launceston City Deal and the $150 million funding support for the $300 million University relocation and transformation projects in Launceston and Burnie;
  • Australia’s first Hyatt Centric Hotel – supporting 177 full-time equivalent jobs during construction and around 60 ongoing roles; and
  • Coordinating the Expression of Interest process for developments in and around our parks, which is unlocking huge potential in regional parts of Tasmania and is already creating jobs.

Ms White must think Tasmanians have the memory of a goldfish when it comes to economic growth in this state. With ABS figures continually showing growth in labour force figures and business confidence, this is in stark contrast to the previous job-destroying Labor-Green Government.
