What does Labor stand for?

Over the past few weeks we’ve been asking the question ‘what does Labor stand for?’ What we’ve found out is they stand for nothing.

Labor are a party devoid of leadership and too gutless to put their positions on important issues on the public record for scrutiny.

This month alone:

  • They’ve refused to show the public amendments to birth certificates that they plan to try and push through Parliament this week.
  • They’ve refused to state a clear position on the Government’s education reforms.
  • They won’t stand up to the Greens and back the EOI process for tourism developments, or the state’s important salmon industry.
  • They won’t criticise a Federal Labor Policy which would see hundreds of construction jobs in Tasmania lost and thousands of houses not being built.
  • And they won’t condemn union actions which are deliberately designed to target essential services the public relies on.

The problem for Labor, which was clearly shown at the election, is that their strategy is to attract Green voters who oppose economic growth and job creation. That’s why heading into the last Parliamentary session of the year, they’re focused on taking gender off birth certificates, more politicians in Parliament and the usual stunts such as the one we saw yesterday.

It's clear that Labor are a Party with no values who don’t want to do the hard work of opposition in coming up with good policy and putting it up for scrutiny.
