The Hodgman Liberal Government is continuing to invest in projects that will grow the tourism industry on the West Coast and support local communities.
I am pleased that a Request for Proposal has now been advertised to complete Stage Two of West Coast Mountain Bike Project that will facilitate the construction and design of the Mt Heemskirk trail.
The Government allocated $570,000 in the recent 2016-17 State Budget to complete Stage Two of the Project, and its construction will create jobs and ensure greater visitor numbers to the West Coast communities.
The design and costings of the track will be finalised following the completion of the Request for Proposal process, with a focus on local jobs in line with our Buy Local Policy.
The panel assessing proposals will comprise representatives from the Parks and Wildlife Service, Department of State Growth; and a mountain bike trails expert.
The process will be overseen by an independent probity advisor.
The process and contract are expected to be finalised by 31 October 2016 with construction expected to commence soon after.
The completion of Stage Two will be another example of the Hodgman Liberal Government’s commitment to creating jobs and growing the economy, and help achieve our goal of attracting 1.5 million visitors to the state by 2020.
