Welcoming the Tassie Kangaroos home

The Hodgman Liberal Government is the strongest supporter of women in sport, and I’m delighted to welcome the North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos to their second home - Tasmania.

The Government’s partnership with the Tassie Kangaroos is supporting women’s sport at the highest level.

Our agreement with the North Melbourne Football Club will help deliver our plan to create pathways for Tasmanian girls and women to become elite athletes.

The Government’s $2.5 million deal over five years with the Club will not only see Tasmania represented in the AFLW in 2019, but also the establishment of all girls Auskick centres, increased coaching, talent identification programs and marketing opportunities for Tasmania. It’s a turning point for Tasmanian football and creates an unprecedented opportunity for our women and girls.

The Government is committed to developing and supporting opportunities for all Tasmanians to participate in sport, and we are making the largest per capita investment into women’s and girl’s sporting facilities in the nation through the Levelling the Playing Field program. This demonstrates our commitment to growing women’s sport in Tasmania.

Through partnering with local government and sporting organisations, our Levelling the Playing Field program will see our $10 million commitment leverage around $20 million of investment to improve women’s sporting facilities.
