Today we officially welcome home Tasmania’s Commonwealth Games athletes who shone on the international sporting stage and did our State proud.
The Tasmanian team of 14 athletes won 10 gold and four silver medals, making the Games the most successful ever for our State’s competitors.
We also thank and acknowledge the 17 Tasmanian officials for their valuable contribution to the Games across a range of events.
We also congratulate the Tasmanian Institute of Sport for the excellent assistance provided to our athletes through high performance coaching and support programs.
As part of a national tour, Tasmanians will have the opportunity to meet some of the 2018 local and interstate Commonwealth Games athletes at a celebratory event tomorrow at Princes Wharf 1.
I encourage all Tasmanians to head along between 12 to 1.30pm tomorrow to meet the athletes and congratulate them on their exceptional achievements at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
