Wear Orange Wednesday

This Wear Orange Wednesday (WOW), I would like to say thank you to all our SES volunteers who make an invaluable contribution to our State.

WOW recognises the work emergency service volunteers undertake, and the positive impacts they have on the lives of those they assist.

Tasmanians know they can rely on our thousands of volunteers who give up their time to support the community, particularly in times of need such as during floods, storms, road accidents, supporting councils, police and other emergency services.

The diligence and bravery of Tasmania’s 600 volunteers with the State Emergency Service and 5,000 volunteers from the Tasmania Fire Service, is to be truly commended.

This year many of our volunteers have stepped up to the challenges of COVID-19, assisting Tasmania Police to conduct over 13,000 checks to ensure the wellbeing of people in isolation and compliance.

So again, I say thank you to all our volunteers. Your community spirit and sacrifice is acknowledged and applauded.
