Legislation has now passed Parliament that will allow councils to vote on resolutions enabling the State Government to become an equity partner in TasWater.
Under the MoU signed between the State Government, TasWater’s council-owners representative and TasWater, more money will be spent on vital infrastructure and a freeze on water and sewerage prices will ensure Tasmanians are better off.
This marks another important step forward and clears the way for councils to consider and vote lawfully upon resolutions that would give effect to the intent of the MoU.
Should councils vote in favour of the resolutions that give effect to the MoU, further legislation will be introduced that will pave the way for the State Government to become an equity partner in TasWater.
