Walk to School Day a winner

Primary school students will tomorrow take important steps to a heathier active lifestyle by participating in activities for National Walk Safely to School Day.

The annual event, now in its 17th year, encourages primary school aged children to regularly walk to and from school, or include walking as part of their commute to school.

Walk Safely to School Day promotes the message that active kids are healthy kids and teaches children positive lifestyle habits from a young age.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is very supportive of all initiatives that promote student health and wellbeing.

Parents are also encouraged to get involved in the day and share in the benefits of regularly walking with their children.

While walking is one of the oldest ways to get around, Walk Safely to School Day has embraced the latest technology with a downloadable App available for free for Apple and Android devices.

The fun and interactive App is available to help keep motivation up by measuring the distances children walk, their average speeds, maps to look at the best routes and even allowing schools to view their student’s walking achievements.
