***EMBARGOED UNTIL 00:01AM MONDAY 25 NOVEMBER 2019***
Eliminating family violence is a top priority for the Tasmanian Government and today Tasmania joins communities across Australia, and the world, in declaring that all women must be free to live in safety and free from all forms of violence.
Today’s walk in support of the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women is an important event for Tasmanians to show solidarity on an issue that impacts so many across our communities.
It is our vision that all Tasmanians are safe, equal and respected.
This year the Tasmanian Government launched Safe Homes, Families, Communities: Tasmania’s family and sexual violence action plan 2019-2022, which is the next stage of our commitment to preventing and responding to family violence and a new response to sexual violence.
Today’s walk demonstrates a strong community commitment to ending violence against women and their children.
If you or someone you know is impacted by family violence, call the Safe at Home Family Violence Response and Referral Line on 1800 633 937 or visit the 1800RESPECT website. In an emergency, call 000.
