Vibrant cultural precinct one step closer

The Hedberg, one of Tasmania’s most ambitious cultural and arts infrastructure projects, is taking shape.

Today marks the completion of the second floor concrete slab of the building, bringing it one  step closer to completion.

Tasmania’s creative industries sector is an important part of our economy, and also of our critical visitor economy.

That’s why the Government is providing $30 million in support for the project, in line with our plan to grow our creative industries and attract even more visitors to our state.

Our investment in the Hedberg is an important part of our Plan to grow the sector and support more local jobs, and the construction phase alone is creating 280 jobs, along with 58 ongoing.

It is being delivered in partnership with the Government, University of Tasmania and the Theatre Royal and is expected to be completed in 2019.

Through innovative education, vibrant and accessible performance spaces, the Hedberg will become a major driver of Tasmania’s creative economy.
