On behalf of the Tasmanian Government and Tasmanians I wish to extend my condolences to the family of Max Walker AM and to all who knew and loved him.
Max was born in Hobart and maintained close links to the State during his adult life, including extensive business interests and regular charity work.
Affectionately known as “Tangles” on the sporting field, Max was a crowd favourite during his 34 tests for Australia.
He was just as popular after retiring from cricket and entered the field of broadcasting. With a wit and warmth all his own, Max’s wry smile and unmistakable voice was a regular fixture on televisions around the nation.
His books were unmistakably and unashamedly Australian in their style and reminded us all to not take ourselves too seriously.
A proud and much loved Tasmanian, vale Max Walker AM.
