Will Hodgman, Premier

Vale Deirdre Flint OAM

The Tasmanian Government extends its condolences to all those close to Deirdre Flint OAM, who has passed away.

Deirdre was a proud and passionate advocate for Tasmania, and especially the Central Highlands community she loved so dearly.

Deirdre was elected to the Central Highlands Council in 1996 and was Mayor from 2002 until her retirement from public life last year. She was a fearless and tireless public servant, and did much to improve her community.

Together with her husband the late Tony Flint, she made a significant contribution to her adopted State after moving here from South Australia over thirty years ago.

Deirdre played leading roles in various organisations such as the Hamilton Agricultural Show Society, the CWA, the Red Cross, the Launceston Chamber of Commerce and the Premier’s Local Government Council.

Deirdre was also a very well respected member of the Liberal Party and served the Party at both the state and federal level with great distinction, including as Federal Women’s Council President from  1999 – 2004.
