Vacancy Report

Today's ABS Vacancy Report figures show the number of jobs available in Tasmania is on the rise.

We know we can't turn the economy around overnight, but we have a long-term Plan for Tasmania to grow the economy and create jobs.

Online jobs vacancies increased by 2.6 per cent in September 2014 to be 15.3 per cent higher than one year earlier.

The largest increases over the past 12 months were for labourer positions, up 27.8 per cent, and machinery operators and driver positions, up 27.3 per cent.

The number of job seekers receiving income support in Tasmania also decreased by 0.9 per cent in September compared to the previous month.

At a regional level, the number of job seekers receiving income support decreased in all regions compared to the previous month as jobs were created across the state.

These figures are the latest in a positive trend for jobs.

Since the March election we have seen 1,900 jobs created across the State, the unemployment rate has dropped by 0.3 per cent to 7.2 per cent and the participation rate has increased to 60.7 per cent.

We know there are no silver bullets, but we have a long-term Plan for Tasmania to grow the economy and create jobs and we are already seeing the effects.
