UTas VC Professor Peter Rathjen resignation

As Vice Chancellor of the University of Tasmania, Professor Peter Rathjen has played a pivotal role in transforming Tasmania’s educational landscape.

From world class research, to contributing to revitalisations in the North, North West and Hobart, and increasing opportunities for more Tasmanians to go to University, there is no doubt Professor Rathjen’s legacy will be remembered for generations to come.

During Professor Rathjen’s tenure, the University of Tasmania has undergone a significant period of change. The North and North West campus transformation projects now offer the opportunity to raise educational attainment and prepare students to be part of the skilled workforce.

The Tasmanian Government has worked in partnership with Professor Rathjen through the establishment of the Peter Underwood Centre for Educational Attainment. The Underwood Centre conducts research projects for strengthening educational outcomes in Tasmania and manages a range of programs that seek to raise the retention and aspirations of school students in all regions of Tasmania, including the Children’s University and Bigger Things programs.

I wish Professor Rathjen all the best in his future endeavours and thank him for the valuable contribution he has made to the Tasmanian community.

The Tasmanian Government looks forward to continuing our strong collaborative relationship with the University, and the new Vice Chancellor when appointed.
