Upgrades for Lake St Clair

The Hodgman Liberal Government is a strong supporter of Tasmania’s much-loved national parks, and we are committed to strategic investment to ensure they reach their full tourism potential.

I am pleased the popular viewing platform on the shore of Lake St Clair will be upgraded to improve disability access to one of the finest vistas of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area.

The $57,000 project, funded by the Parks and Wildlife Service Tourism Infrastructure Fund (TIF) will realign the path to the platform and provide a ramp to the shore, enabling mobility-impaired visitors to enjoy the spectacular views of Australia’s deepest lake and the surrounding mountains.

Work on the platform has already begun and follows the installation of a new shower block at the Lake St Clair visitor centre.

It’s great news for the thousands of walkers each year completing the Overland Track, and demonstrates our commitment to Tasmania’s booming nature-based tourism industry that attracts countless visitors to the state and creates jobs.  .
